Sesselja Omarsdottir

Sesselja joined Alvotech in 2015 as a Head of Analytical Method Development and was responsible for method identification, development and implementation. She has been involved in establishing the laboratories at Alvotech’s facility in Reykjavik and the processes around all analytical testing.

Before joining Alvotech, Sesselja was the Dean and Professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Iceland. She has over 10 years of experience in the academic world, where she received several awards for her research and teaching. Sesselja has taken part in several international research projects, supervised a number of graduate students and co-founded a startup company. She was a board member of three start-up companies and a member and chairperson of several academic committees and chairperson of the expert panel for health and life sciences for the Icelandic Research Fund. She was also an alternate member of the Pharmaceutical Committee for the Icelandic Medicines Agency and HMPC for the European Medicines Agency.

Sesselja is a pharmacist by training and received her M.Sc. in Pharmacy and Ph.D. in Natural Product Chemistry from the University of Iceland.
